In the midst of debates about "childless cat ladies" and women's rights over our bodies, I've been reflecting on how these issues intersect with beauty, self-expression, and freedom.
While we have the right to choose our clothing, makeup, and hairstyles, nearly every woman I've worked with has been told at some point that she "can't wear"
a certain color or style. This advice often comes from those close to us – friends, family, partners. The justification is usually that we're "too much" of something: too old, too fat, too thin.
These comments, reinforced by societal messaging, transform into false beliefs that women carry for years, decades and even a lifetime! When we allow others to dictate our self-expression, we miss out on the joy of being our true selves.
It's beyond makeup and clothes. It's about the freedom to wake up each morning and present yourself to the world exactly as you choose, without fear or shame. It's about having the audacity to believe that you, exactly as you are, are worthy of taking up space and being seen.
So wear the bold lipstick. Rock the bright colors. Embrace the styles you've been told aren't "flattering." In a world that profits from women's insecurities, loving yourself loudly and unapologetically is nothing short of revolutionary!
Some questions for you to explore:
What (if anything) have you been told you can't or shouldn't wear?
What's one limiting belief you'd like to let go of?
What's one way bold thing you want to try instead?
